The Five Eids - Islamic Festivals

Eid is an Arabic word which means an event which happens again and again. In Islam Eid is known as the happy festivals which occur every year. The word Eid occurs in the Holy Qur'an once in Sura Al Ma-idah verse 114: "Isa son of Maryam said: "O Allah our Lord! Send down to us from Heaven a table laid with food, that it may be a recurring happiness (Eid) for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from You, and give us sustenance, for You are the best of Providers." (5:114) The above ayat is telling us when Prophet Isa (A) asked Allah for food from Heaven because his Disciples wanted more evidence to increase their faith, and to witness a miracle, and to always celebrate the occasion with joy and satisfaction. We are lucky in that we have five Eids in the year: Eid ul Juma' Eid ul Haj Eid ul Fitr Eid e Gadheer Eid e Mubahila EID UL JUMA' Juma' is Friday and for all Muslims it is a very religious day. The Holy Prophet (S) has

The district administration also was apprehensive as the old city at that time was simmering due to arrest of Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad following Shia College row. The

Eid al-Mubahila

24th Zilhajj 10th Hijrah is celebrated as the Eid al-Mubahila. On this historical occasion, Islam emerged triumphantly against Christianity. The historical event of Mubahila also reveals the exalted status of the Ahlul Bayt[Family of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.)].This milestone event in Islamic history since then has assumed the signifance of Eid in the history of Islam. In the early days of Islam, Najran was a large centre of people in Yemen who had changed from idol worship to Christianity. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) had sent letters to the heads of different countries inviting them to Islam. One such letter was addressed to the Christians of Najran. It read as follows: "In the Name of the God of Ibrahim, Ishaaq and Ya'qub. This letter is from Muhammad, the Prophet and Messenger of Allah to the Asqaf (Bishop) of Najran. Praise be to the God of Ibrahim, Ishaaq and Ya'qub. I invite you to worship Allah instead of (His) servants. I invite you to come out of the

Heaven and Hell

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said,” Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like. The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell." They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man&

Eid-e-Gadeer

The Farewell Pilgrimage ======================= Ten years after the migration, the Messenger of Allah ordered  his close followers to call all the people in different places to join him in his last pilgrimage. On this pilgrimage he taught them how to perform the pilgrimage in a correct and unified form. This was the first time that the Muslims with this magnitude gathered in one place in the presence of their leader, the Messenger of Allah. On his way to Mecca, more than seventy thousand people followed Prophet (PBUH&HF). On the fourth day of Dhul-Hajjah more than one hundred thousand Muslims had entered Mecca. ======================== Revelation of Verse 5:67 ======================== On the 18th of Dhul-Hajjah, after completing his last pilgrimage (Hajjatul-Widaa), Prophet was leaving Mecca toward Medina, when he and the crowd of   people reached to a place called Ghadir Khum (which is close to today's Juhfah). It was a place where people from different p

Ayodhya Issue

Indian Shia Cleric Comes up With a Peaceful Way Out Noted Shia cleric and vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Kalbe Sadiq said he has an "option" for the amicable settlement of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri mosque dispute. "I will put the option before the AIMPLB after the judicial verdict on September 24 and the situation cools down," said Maulana Sadiq, addressing a seminar on Wednesday. "I am hopeful the Board would accept the option." Otherwise, he has another option, for which he would take an initiative himself, the Maulana said. "My sincere efforts are to ensure that the lingering issue is resolved by year-end so both Hindus and Muslims can heave a sigh of relief." The Maulana, however, refused to reveal the contents of the option and said he would place it only before the AIMPLB. Asked whether his idea has not come rather late in the day, he said: "I can’t help it. I keep thinking on impor

Islamic Books

The six major Hadith collections (Arabic: "Al-Sihah al-Sittah ") are the works of some individuals from Islamic scholars who by their own initiative started collecting sayings that people attributed to Muhammad approximately 200 years after his death. Sunni Muslim s view the Six major Hadith collections as their most important. They are, in order of importance Sahih Bukhari, collected by al-Bukhari (d. 870), included 7275 hadiths Sahih Muslim, collected by Muslim b. al-Hajjaj (d. 875), included 9200 Sunan al-Sughra, collected by al-Nasa'i (d. 915) Sunan Abi Da'ud, collected by Abu Da'ud (d. 888) Sunan al-Tirmidhi, collected by al-Tirmidhi (d. 892)   6. This one is disputed. Sometimes its referred to Al-Muwatta, collected by Imam Malik (d. 796) and sometimes it is referred to Sunan Ibn Maja, collected by Ibn Maja (d. 886). Some people even consider Sunan al-Darami to be the sixth one [citation needed]. The two first are referred to as the Two Sahihs.
