Deploy UN forces in Arab countries, say Mumbai Muslims

Mumbai, March 25 (IANS) Muslims from Mumbai and its surrounding areas Friday demanded deployment of United Nations peacekeeping forces in Arab and West Asian countries where pro-democracy and pro-reform protests were raging.

The demand was made by several speakers after a huge rally of Muslims organised by several Sunni and Shia organisations at the Azad Maidan here, according to a spokesman, Imran Rasool.

Among the organisations, the Khoja Shia Isnaashari Jamaat urged UN forces to be rushed to countries like Bahrain and Yemen to ensure that civilians, including Indians, are safe there, while also calling upon the Indian government to do its bit.

'All possible steps must be taken by the Indian government to ensure that the repressive regimes are immediately ended,' Jamaat's president Safdar H. Karmali said.

Shia scholar Maulana Ahmed Abidi, Khoja Jama Masjid's head priest Maulana Hasan Karmali and others also demanded immediate cessation of all violence against the peaceful, unarmed protesters struggling for democracy.

They noted that there has been 'unprecedented levels of state oppression' and now there was 'foreign oppression', referring to the offensive launched by western countries in Libya as well as some Gulf states sending troops to Bahrain.

'Bahrain is now gripped by further violence after the Saudi Arabian and UAE forces entered the country last week compelling the Bahrain ruler to declare a national emergency,' said Maulana Ahmed Abidi.

Protesters in Bahrain have been demanding political reforms and greater freedom. A government crackdown on protesters has left at least 12 people dead since Feb 14.

The speakers also demanded steps by the Indian government on these issues. 'We demand that India should condemn military action against innocent people and enquire about the Indians living and working there,' social activist Sabbir Somji said.

The protest was held post-Friday namaaz to express solidarity with the people of Bahrain and other Arab countries where democratic movements have strengthened in the past couple of months.

God will always send us what we need

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication for her daughter. Upon returning to her car she found that she had locked her keys in the car. She was in a hurry to get home to her sick daughter. She didn't know what to do, so she called her home and told the baby sitter what had happened and that she did not know what to do. The baby sitter told her that her daughter was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door." The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time or other had locked their keys in their car. Then she looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this." So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help. Within five minutes an old rusty car p...

Shahadat of Ameerul Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) - A Nation's Loss

As-Suyuti (Shafi’i scholar) relates that Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: Love of Ali is faith, and enmity towards him is sedition. (Kanzu 'l-`ummal. In as-Suyuti, Jam`u 'l-jawami `, vol.6, p.156) It was 19th of Ramadhan 41 Hijri while Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) was leading the morning prayers and was in the second sajdah of the 2nd Rakaat that Ibne Muljim’s (l.a.) sword fell and subsequently the life of the greatest warrior saint was taken away to his merciful Lord. This was the time when Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) uttered his famous words : "Fuzto be rabbil Kaaba" - "By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful". The crime of assassinating Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) remains one of the most cruel, brutal and hideous, because it was not committed against one man, but against the whole rational Islamic leadership. By assassinating Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.), they actually aimed at ass...

A false tradition

It is stated in Minhaj al Sadiqin that prophet Dawud had nineteen sons, and every one of them wanted to inherit his father's kingdom. Allah sent Dawud nine questions with answers and asked him to appoint the son who gives the correct answers as his successor. QUESTIONS and ANSWERS: 1. Which is the nearest thing? Hereafter. 2. Which is the farthest thing? Time passed away 2. What phenomenon manifests love? Body with soul. 4. What phenomenon manifests dread? Body without soul. 5. Which things remain the same? Sky and earth. 6. Which things ever remain different? Day and night. 7. Which things are opposed to each other. Life and death. 8. What ends in - goodness? Patience and forbearance at the time of anger. 9. What ends in evil? Haste at the time of anger None save Sulayman, the youngest son, gave the correct answers, so he was made the heir of Dawud. Aqa Mahdi Puya says: The law of inheritance stated in this verse is the law of the Lord, and no one can ever make cha...
