Shias in Mumbai begin mourning as Mohurrum starts

Mumbai: Even for the uninitiated, it is easy to spot the difference in the day-to-day affairs of Muslims in areas of Imambada and Dongri. Black dress, water stalls springing up in every corner, tragic story of Imam Hussein put up on banners guides one to the Mohurrum period that began from Friday, mainly for the Shias.

Considered as the darkest days in the history of Islam, Mohurrum is observed to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, Prophet Mohammed’s grandson. Imam Hussain was martyred on the 10th day of Mohurrum by then Umayyad Caliph Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 622 AD.

No occasion that is considered “celebratory” is observed during this period. Sermons are conducted at various places in the city that describe Imam Hussain’s sacrifice.

“This year, I will talk about the importance of knowledge as that is what has dragged the Muslims down. Its neglect has resulted in collective deterioration of the community,” said Maulana Mirza Mohammed Ather whose sermons are the most popular in the city.

This is the Maulana’s 55th year of delivering sermons from the Masjid-e-Irania (Mogul Masjid). His supporters now wish to have him in the Guinness Book of World Records for this.
“Imam raised voice against all that was wrong and that is why he was martyred. Today, in the name and dress of Islam, some misguided people are committing acts of terror. We tell people to be humane,” said Maulana Jaffar Abbas whose sermons are considered very popular too.

Shezanali Hemani, an MBBS student, even takes leave to attend the processions. “Diwali break is till November 20 but I have extended it till the 26th as Ashura is to be observed on that day,” said Hemani, a Mazgaon resident.

Besides the sermons, Shias take out a procession where they recollect the loss of Imam Hussain. “Every day of the procession (julus) symbolises a loss of that time. The processions start on seventh day and are held till the 10th, the day on which Imam was martyred with his 72 companions. We beat our chests in his memory,” said Kausar Zaidi, president of Anjuman-e-Imamiya, an organisation that conducts such processions.

Kya Rahib aur fitrus farishta ka waqia sahih hai?

क्या फरिश्ता फितरुस और राहिब का वाक्य सही है? کیا فرشتہ فطرس اور راہب کا واقعہ صحیح ہے؟ Kya Rahib aur fitrus farishta ka waqia sahih hai? Yeh sawal hum ne Grand Ayatullah Shaikh Muhammad Hussain Najafi se December 2012 me kiya tha, unka jawab yaha attached kiya gaya hai Waqia of Fitrus:  When Imam Husain (AS) was born, Allah sent down the angel Jibrail (AS) to congratulate the family. On the way down from the heavens angel Jibrail (AS) passed an island, on which the angel Fitrus was sent to by Allah because he had been naughty. Fitrus had also had his wings taken away by Allah. When Fitrus saw Jibrail (AS) he asked him where he was going. Jibrail (AS) told him that he was going to congratulate the Holy Prophet (SAW) and his family on the birth of Imam Husain (AS).Fitrus asked if he could also go with him. Jibrail (AS) agreed with the permission of Allah and so carried him down to earth. When the angels reached the Holy Prophet (SAW) and congratulated him and his fa...

Shahadat of Ameerul Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) - A Nation's Loss

As-Suyuti (Shafi’i scholar) relates that Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: Love of Ali is faith, and enmity towards him is sedition. (Kanzu 'l-`ummal. In as-Suyuti, Jam`u 'l-jawami `, vol.6, p.156) It was 19th of Ramadhan 41 Hijri while Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) was leading the morning prayers and was in the second sajdah of the 2nd Rakaat that Ibne Muljim’s (l.a.) sword fell and subsequently the life of the greatest warrior saint was taken away to his merciful Lord. This was the time when Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) uttered his famous words : "Fuzto be rabbil Kaaba" - "By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful". The crime of assassinating Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) remains one of the most cruel, brutal and hideous, because it was not committed against one man, but against the whole rational Islamic leadership. By assassinating Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.), they actually aimed at ass...

God will always send us what we need

A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication for her daughter. Upon returning to her car she found that she had locked her keys in the car. She was in a hurry to get home to her sick daughter. She didn't know what to do, so she called her home and told the baby sitter what had happened and that she did not know what to do. The baby sitter told her that her daughter was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat hanger and use that to open the door." The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been thrown down on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time or other had locked their keys in their car. Then she looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this." So she bowed her head and asked God to send her some help. Within five minutes an old rusty car p...
