Tabut of Imam Ali (A.S) |
On the eve of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (as) we offer our heartiest condolences to Imam of our Time (a.t.f.s.).
“I am the city of Knowledge and Ali is its gate" – Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.)
(Tarikh, Ibn Kathir, vol 7 p 358; Mustadrak, al Hakim, vol 3 p 127)
"Ask me before you lose me. By Allah, if you ask me about anything that could happen up to the Day of Judgement, I will tell you about it. Ask me about the Book of Allah, because by Allah there is no [Qur'anic] verse that I do not know whether it was revealed during the night or the day, or whether it was revealed on a plain or on a mountain." – Imam Ali (a.s.)
(Tarikh, Suyuti, p 124; al Riyadh al-Nadirah, vol 2 p 198; al Itqan, Suyuti, vol 2 p 319; Fath al Bari, vol 8 p 485; Tadhib al Tadhib, vol 7 p 338)
IMAM ALI (A.S.) ON KNOWLEDGE
Imam Ali (a.s.) once replied to a group of ten learned men who said, 'We seek your permission for our putting a question to you.'
Imam Ali (a.s.) replied, 'You are at perfect liberty.'
They said, 'Of knowledge and wealth, which is better and why. Please give a separate answer to each of us
Imam Ali (a.s.) answered in ten parts:
1. Knowledge is the legacy of the Prophets; wealth is the inheritance of the Pharaohs. Therefore, knowledge is better than wealth
2. You are to guard your wealth but knowledge guards you. Therefore, knowledge is better.
3. A man of wealth has many enemies, while a man of knowledge has many friends. Hence, knowledge is better.
4. Knowledge is better because it increases with distribution, while wealth decreases by that act.
5. Knowledge is better because a learned man is apt to be generous while a wealthy person is apt to be miserly.
6. Knowledge is better because it cannot be stolen while wealth can be stolen.
7. Knowledge is better because time cannot harm knowledge but wealth rusts in course of time and wears away.
8. Knowledge is better because it is boundless while wealth is limited and you can keep account of it.
9. Knowledge is better because it illuminates the mind while wealth is apt to blacken it.
10. Knowledge is better because knowledge induced the humanity in our Prophet to say to GOD 'we worship thee as we are your servants,' while wealth engendered in Pharaoh and Nimrod the vanity which made them claim god-head.
Ameerul Momineen Ali ibne Abi Talib (a.s.) was born in the House of Allah, Holy Kaaba, and martryed in the House of Allah, Masjid-e-Kufa on the 21st day of Holy Month of Ramadan 40 A.H. and buried in Najaf al-Ashraf (Iraq).
On 19th of Holy Month of Ramadan when Imam Ali (a.s.) was leaving his abode, the household birds began making a great noise and when one of Imam Ali (a.s.)’s servants attempted to silence their voice. Imam Ali (as) said, "Leave them alone, for their cries are only lamentations foreboding my death." Imam Ali (a.s.) had prophesied his departure from this world several days before hand. Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s) had also prophesied the assassination of Imam Ali (a.s.). Regarding Imam Ali (a.s.) Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) had said, "O Ali! I see before my eyes thy beard dyed with the blood of thy forehead."
Imam Ali (a.s.) came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. He even woke up the sleeping Abd al- Rahman ibn Muljam. Imam Ali (a.s.) gave the Azaan and became engaged in leading the congregation. Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (as.), and when Imam Ali (a.s.) was in a state of prostration, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam dealt a heavy stroke with his sword, inflicting a deep wound on Imam Ali's (a.s.) head.
This was the time when Imam Ali (a.s.) uttered his famous words : "Fuzto warab-il-Kaaba" - "By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful".
The Holy Prophet said: "The love of Ali is the scale of faith, and hostility unto him is the scale of hypocrisy."
Abu Talib said: "Muhammad is the scale of truth which weighs the minimum as well as the maximum weight ."
Ali(A.S): Allah ko Allah ke zariye, Rasool ko risalat ke zariye aur Ulul amr ko ma'roof, adl, aur ahsaan ke zariye pahchano.
